We chose Apple’s ecosystem for privacy, security and a fast native app. Recognition runs on your device. CloudKit handles the catalogue, optional sync and sharing. No third-party runtime services or SDKs.
In a world full of AI, we wanted room to think for ourselves. So we built the reading app we wanted: private, secure by design, and without another subscription.
Cover and page recognition happen locally. Camera images are never uploaded for catalogue lookup.
Choose whether to sync. Personal records use your private CloudKit database, with sensitive content stored in encrypted fields.
Invite people to a shelf. Your notes, Study Cards and personal reading history stay outside the shared library.

Shared shelves show books and permitted member activity and ratings. Your notes, reviews, Study Cards and history stay private. Public ratings show an average and reader count, not your identity.
Your saved library, notes and Study Cards work offline. Catalogue lookup, shared-library updates and optional iCloud sync need a connection. Lookups go to CloudKit; camera images stay on your device.
Shared shelves and public book ratings are part of Cirey. Private friend connections, 24-hour reading Stories and a Community space are still being planned.
Cirey uses Sign in with Apple. Optional sync and shared libraries use iCloud. There’s no separate Cirey password.
